Surf Your Website In All Main Browsers

A Web Browser is a software program, residing on a local computer, is used to access information from World Wide Web servers that helps the user to interact with the text, images, videos, music and other information on any web page. These browsers help the user to access the hyperlinked text and images by traversing the links.

The browser interprets the coding language of the World Wide Web in graphic form, displaying the translation rather than the coding which allows anyone to “Surf the Web”.

Browser Advancement

Some time ago, there were only 245 distinct browsers in use that had standard versions, good platforms, and operating system versions, but now because of the technological up gradation we have lot too. Today's browsers have got some lot more features and standards than before. But there are really only three contenders to keep an eye on: Internet Explorer, Firefox, and Safari.

Internet Explorer

The most popular browser is the Internet Explorer which account to 80% of the browser usage. The older version is still having an amazing market share because of its features. Microsoft’s  new release I.E.7.0, is not yet been officially declared has got its own features such as tabbed browsing, web search right from the toolbar, advanced printing, easy discovery, reading and subscription to RSS feeds.

Firefox

Firefox is a free, open source browser purchased by AOL in 1998 and released it to the open source community as “The Mozilla Application Suite" which is used in parts by many browsers including the Firefox. Firefox is an excellent browser, and it's available for Windows, Mac, and Linux. Firefox has got strict standards compliance, helpful development tools, and robust JavaScript error reporting which makes it a preferred browser for professional web developers.

Firefox has a tabbing interface which has a single browser with many websites that avoides opening lot of windows. It has got an other feature called the find/search i.e, when we type a particular search word, it automatically highlights the matching word in that particular page and if there is no matching word the search box turns red along with a soft clicking sound as the word is typed. So we need not type the full word, submit it and wait until it displays the result, instead before hand it tells that there is no such term available matching the search.

Safari

Apple's Safari is an excellent browser for the Macintosh. The right choice for a Macintosh user is Safari rather than Internet Explorer because it has got tight integration with other Mac applications like Email, But since it's consistent with standards, supporting this browser is relatively easy. It has got the very high standard compliant which has the same feature of tabbing interface as Firefox but doesn’t have the search/find feature in it. The latest version of Safari, under Apple's new Tiger 10.4 operating system, has got really great RSS features.

Browser Standards & Supports

In website, request for proposals, we can notice a bullet point indicating support for all browsers. Practically speaking this is not at all possible because, if we want to support all older browsers then we can have only limited design in our site were the site also will look older. Similarly when a site is been designed with modern trends and technologies it will look horrible in older browsers and in certain cases, it will never work. So before designing a site or choosing a technology it is important to define which browsers the site will support is the hardest technical crisis for any web developer. The more browsers support official HTML and CCS standards, easier is the support to multiple browsers and platforms. Nowadays, all browers look similar but when compared they may have minor differences.

Eventhough the technology and standards are getting richer day by day, still there is a gap between the I.E and the audience. The Internet Explorer’s latest version I.E.7.0 supports 90% of the on-going HTML and CSS standards but still 10% of the standards are unsupported and it has also introduced features which other browsers doesn’t support makes only a minor differences between the browsers.

But, we still we have problems that including the display features may work in a particular browser and not in the other. So in this situation we normally skip of certain elements causing the overall performance of a website to decrease. Thus, when we have a robust web design, the majority of our work is in finding solutions for the smallest discrepancies where standards have been ignored or superseded.

Finalize

A website designed should have standard versions, good platforms, operating system versions and good browser support suiting the latest trends and technologies. Unless these features are present, a quality site cannot be developed and will not give good reputation to a company.
